During my 5+ year tenure at The New York Times I worked extensively on the company’s Cooking brand. My work for New York Times Cooking has included everything from Art Directing photoshoots, to designing, editing, and animating videos. I’ve designed all things print, from 2 inch ads in our paper to massive billboards in Washington state. All while working alongside some of the most talented individuals in their field.

Social Videos

  • New York Times Cooking relies heavily on maintaining a strong presence on social media to help grow its audience. Collected here is a small selection of animated videos I’ve worked on. Projects range from videos for large brand campaigns, to one-off videos promoting popular recipes.

Marketing Photography

  • It’s no secret that people eat with their eyes first. Images used for New York Times Cooking must convey that the recipes they represent are both dependable and delicious. Photography used for marketing carries the added responsibility of conveying the importance of the recipe process as well.

During my time working for Cooking I was tasked with the art direction of a marketing-specific photo library for use across all marketing touchpoints. The process involved several multi-day photoshoots, working alongside some of the best stylists and photographers in the culinary world with the end goal of depicting popular seasonal recipes from our site, and the process of making them.

The Gift For Every Taste

  • Designed to generate excitement around the act of giving a Cooking subscription we aimed to position Cooking as the essential gift subscription for everyone who loves to cook. The design pulls UI/UX elements from the Cooking product and recontextualizes them in fun and engaging copy.

The campaign ran in all New York Times owned channels; on our website, in the news paper, and in emails. The campaign also included the designing and development of a custom gifting-specific landing page where users could purchase gift subscriptions for their loved-ones and friends.
